B.Ed Degree Course

1. Eligibility for Admission to the Course

A candidate shall be eligible for the Degree of Bachelor of Education provided that she has taken the B.A., B.Sc, or a post graduate degree of Madras University or a degree from some other University recognised by this University as equivalent thereof.   The candidate should have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in the Part III of the UG Degree and pass in the case of SC/ST communities.

The candidates who have received their degrees from other universities should produce Eligibility certificate from the University of Madras. 

The candidate should also have qualified the Common B.Ed., Entrance Examination conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu.  The basis of selection shall be according to the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu Government.

 

2. Duration of the Course and Medium of Instruction

The duration of study for B.Ed., Semester Course is one academic year.  This consists of 210 working days inclusive of admission and examination with a minimum of six hours per day.  The 180 instructional days (90 for each semester) will include teaching practice and school-community based activities.

Minimum duration for practice teaching shall be for a period of 30 working days.

English and Tamil shall be the medium of instruction.  Student teachers may opt for English or Tamil Medium for teaching practice.  Student teachers may opt either English or Tamil Medium to write their theory examinations.

 

3. Eligibility for admission to Examination

A candidate shall be eligible to appear for the B.Ed., degree examination only if she forwards her application for Examination with the satisfactory evidence of having qualified herself for a degree from the University of Madras or from other University which is recognised by Madras university.  The candidate should have put in not less than 80 percent of attendance and should have satisfactorily completed all the course requirements as given in the syllabus.

 

4. Course of Study

The B.Ed., Degree Course shall consist of the following Theory papers and Practicals.

Candidates may choose two optionals from the list of subjects mentioned below. All undergraduates shall have their respective major subject of study as one optional.  The second optional will be the ancillary subject or English or Tamil.  Postgraduates in subjects other than English and Tamil will have both the optionals in the subject in which they have acquired their post graduate degree.

II. Practicum

Credit Based Semester System.

The College has introduced credit-based (semester) system from the academic year 2005-2006 which includes both theory and practicals.  A minimum of ..22... credits in theory and a minimum of ...24... credits in practicals have to be secured by a student for the completion of the course.
