M.Ed Degree Course

1. Eligibility for Admission to the Course

A candidate shall be admitted to the Course provided that she has passed a degree examination in Education or teaching of some other University recognised by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto.
No candidate shall be admitted to the examination unless she has taken the qualifying degree in Education.No candidate shall be eligible for the degree of M.Ed., unless she has completed the prescribed course of study and has passed the qualifying examination.

2. Duration

The duration of study for M.Ed., Semester Course is one academic year.This consists of 210 working days inclusive of admission, examination and 180 instructional days (90 for each semester).

Course of Study

The course of study includes a set of compulsory subjects, elective subjects and a compulsory thesis paper.

C. Thesis or Critical Study Paper

Candidates shall be required to submit a thesis which should be a record of original investigation or a critical study paper of existing data or a combination of both. The thesis shall be prepared under the supervision of a faculty member.Candidates may submit their thesis or critical study paper one month before their theory examination.

Field work – The M.Ed Students are required to observe the regular activities in the Co – operating schools. They shall guide the B.Ed teacher training in their academic obligations during the Practice Teaching. In addition, Field work has to be carried out for the Project work / Thesis which is partial fulfillment of the M.Ed course.

4. Credit based system and Scheme of Examination

The College has introduced credit based system from the academic year 2006-2007.

Credits will be assigned for each of the subjects on the basis of Lectures, Tutorial, Seminar and Practical.The scheme of Examination for each Semester includes Internal Assessment for 40 marks.This contains Tests,Seminar) and Assignments.

The theory examination for a duration of 3 hours shall be for 100 marks.

5. Question Paper Design

The question paper designed for 3 hours will be in Part-A and Part-B with the number of questions and allotment of marks detailed below.

6. Evaluation

There will be double valuation for theory subjects and thesis, If  examiners pass the candidate she is declared to have passed in the subject with the average of the scores given by    the examiners as the mark  obtained by the candidate. If  one of the  examiners fails the candidate  there  shall be a third valuation ,the decision of which is final..  .  A minimum of 50% marks in each subject is prescribed for a pass.  If a candidate who has not secured a minimum of 50% of marks in a subject shall be deemed to have failed in that subject.  The student can repeat the paper in the subsequent examination.

A candidate who has secured a minimum of 50% marks in all the subjects will be declared to have passed in the M.Ed., Course.

The College shall arrange for a Vice Voce examination with the Supervisor and an External examiner.The minimum marks required for a pass in the valuation of the thesis or Critical Study paper shall be 50 percent.

The successful candidates are classified as follows:

I class – 60 marks and above in overall percentage of marks

II class – 50-59% marks in overall percentage of marks.

The mark sheet issued at the end of the semester shall contain the details of all the subjects taken which shall include the title of the subjects, the credits associated with each subject, the marks secured and the final class in which the student is placed.
